PERNEM: Former Goa CM Laxmikant Parsekar has claimed that something happened against his wishes, and he felt betrayed and insulted by the party just 17 days before the 2022 polls.
“Just 17 days before the 2022 elections, something happened against my wishes, and I felt deceived and insulted by the party.”
Parsekar took the opportunity to consider his own political journey and the disappointment he felt after the BJP denied him a ticket to run in the 2022 elections, even though he expressed confidence in Naik’s leadership and wealth of experience, especially as a former MLA and active party member.
“When I first ran for office, I received just 365 votes, and I eventually won on my third try from that small base of votes,” he recounted. But according to Parsekar, the BJP turned him down for the 2022 elections because of doubts about his “winnability.”
He emphasized his challenges as an independent candidate without party backing by saying, “Despite my efforts, my opponent, who contested on a party ticket, won by just 2,000 votes.”
Parsekar further disclosed that he had received offers from other political parties to join their ranks, which further highlights his disenchantment with the BJP. He turned down these offers, nevertheless, claiming moral convictions.
“My moral convictions prevented me from doing so. For this reason, I decided to run as an independent from my constituency, and I haven’t joined any political party as of yet,” he stated.
