MANDREM: Mandrem police today have detained two suspects and alsp seized the vehicle used by the assailants to attack former Sarpanch Mahesh Konadkar.
Sources stated that two suspects have been detained by police, who are investigated to find out their role in the attack.
Five masked men attacked Mahesh Janardhan Konadkar, a former sarpanch and present Mandrem panchayat member, on Wednesday morning in a vicious attack that could have political repercussions.
After dropping his kids off at school, Konadkar was heading home when the event happened at Askwada in Mandrem.
Political leaders from a number of parties have responded to the attack on Konadkar by accusing incumbent Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar of being responsible.
Mandrem police established a special team to track down the accused after filing an assault case in accordance with BNS-2023 Sections 352, 118(1), 126(2), and 324(2) read with Section 3(5).
Sherif Jaques, the police inspector in charge of the Mandrem police station, has been sent to the North Goa district reserve line force as a result of the attack on the former sarpanch.
Police must arrest all five attackers within 24 hours, according to Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, former Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte, and Mandrem panchayat members. At Mantralaya on Wednesday afternoon, a delegation comprising Lobo, Sopte, and Minguel Fernandes, the sarpanch of Mandrem panchayat, met with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and demanded that the attackers be taken into custody.
Konadkar said that the assailants approached him after stepping out of a white car wearing tinted glasses and inquired whether he wanted Michael Lobo.
Then they started using iron rods to attack him. Konadkar was injured in every part of his body. He was taken to the Pernem community health center by locals who were on the scene. According to Konadkar, the assailants used a dialect of Pernem in Konkani.
