Margao: The introduction of compulsory eye-scanning for biometric authentication at fair price shops in South Goa has led to widespread inconvenience among ration card holders, with many reporting significant delays in the distribution process.
According to residents, the new system has replaced the earlier fingerprint-based verification, but has proven to be time-consuming, with each transaction taking up to 15 minutes. The situation has resulted in long queues at ration outlets, causing hardship particularly for elderly citizens and daily wage earners.
Beneficiaries have raised concerns over the efficiency and accessibility of the new mechanism, stating that the process is not user-friendly and often leads to overcrowding at shops. Locals have urged authorities to review the implementation and introduce quicker, more efficient alternatives to ensure smooth distribution of essential commodities.
