PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the State government has proposed a government-owned plot at Farmagudi for the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Technology Goa.
The proposed site is located near the existing technical education hub at Farmagudi, and the proposal has already been forwarded to the Centre for consideration.
Sawant stated that the final decision regarding the campus location will be taken by the Central government after completing the required assessment and inspection process.
IIT-Goa has been operating from its temporary campus at Goa Engineering College since its establishment, while efforts to identify a permanent location have continued for several years.
Several earlier proposals at different locations across Goa had faced hurdles ranging from environmental concerns to local opposition, delaying the finalisation of land for the institute.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the government is committed to ensuring a permanent campus for IIT-Goa and expressed hope that the matter would move forward soon.
