New Delhi: In a dramatic turn of events, FC Goa and star striker Armando Sadiku have mutually agreed to part ways, effective immediately. This development comes as FC Goa prepares to face Gokulam Kerala FC in the Round of 16 of the Kalinga Super Cup on April 21. The decision marks a significant pivot for the team, especially given Sadiku’s impact during his tenure with the Gaurs.
Sadiku joined FC Goa after a triumphant campaign with Mohun Bagan Super Giant, where he won the League Shield. His debut season with FC Goa was nothing short of spectacular, as he netted 10 goals in 24 ISL appearances. What made headlines was his fiery start, scoring an impressive 8 goals in his first 7 consecutive games. However, his form dwindled later in the season, managing only 2 goals in his last 17 matches.
Despite this slump, Sadiku remained FC Goa’s top scorer, contributing significantly by creating 19 chances and providing 2 assists. His last goal for the club came in the semi-final second leg against Bengaluru FC, a match where he equalized the aggregate score before Bengaluru ultimately won. FC Goa finished the league stage with an impressive 48 points, securing second place, but their journey ended in the semi-finals against Bengaluru FC.
