Ranchi: Hundreds of students continued their protest for the sixth consecutive day in Ranchi over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The protesters are demanding a CBI investigation, cancellation of the 14th JPSC preliminary examination, and comprehensive reforms in the state’s recruitment process.
The indefinite sit-in at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium has gained momentum, with student leader Devendra Nath Mahto launching a hunger strike in support of the movement. He has called for investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC examination, the JSSC Combined Graduate Level examination, and other recruitment tests.
Mahto said the protest would continue despite physical hardship, asserting that the movement for students’ rights and justice would not lose its resolve.
The agitating students have expressed a lack of confidence in the ongoing CID investigation ordered by the Jharkhand government. They allege that examination paper leaks and other recruitment irregularities have occurred repeatedly over the years and fear that the current probe may not lead to meaningful action.
The protesters are demanding a CBI inquiry into all recruitment examinations conducted by the JPSC and JSSC over the past seven years. They have also sought the cancellation of the 14th JPSC preliminary examination held on April 19, alleging serious irregularities, including the reported leak of OMR sheets.
Among their other demands is the introduction of a fifth “Not Attempted” option on OMR answer sheets to improve transparency in the examination process.
The protest has attracted widespread public support, with people from different parts of the country sending food and other essentials to the demonstration site through online delivery platforms.
On Saturday evening, thousands of students participated in a torchlight march in Ranchi, renewing their call for an impartial investigation and greater accountability in government recruitment examinations.
