PANAJI: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a surveillance drive targeting canteens and eateries operating in and around office establishments in Porvorim, with three units ordered to stop operations after serious structural deficiencies and poor kitchen hygiene were detected.
The inspection covered four establishments, including three canteens serving government offices and one private restaurant. During the inspections, FDA officials identified shortcomings that raised concerns over food safety and hygiene standards.
The three units have been directed to cease operations until corrective measures are completed. The FDA will verify compliance with the required food safety and hygiene standards before allowing the establishments to resume operations.
Following the Porvorim inspections, the FDA is set to conduct a special state-wide drive covering canteens functioning in both government and private institutions.
The department has also urged all canteen contractors to strictly comply with prescribed food safety and hygiene requirements.
The FDA said ensuring access to safe and hygienic food remains a priority and stressed that food safety standards cannot be compromised. The department said inspections and monitoring would continue to ensure compliance.
