PANAJI: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified food safety surveillance across Panjim, Porvorim, Colvale, Salcete and Quepem, focusing on hygiene and licensing compliance ahead of the festive season.
In Porvorim, government canteens and a catering college were inspected. Spot notices were issued over structural deficiencies, while the college failed to produce FSSAI registration for the mess operated for its students.
In Colvale, two samosa manufacturing units were directed to stop operations after officials found poor hygiene conditions.
During an inspection in Panjim, the FDA detained 450 kg of unlabelled pickle that was being transported on an interstate bus without bills required for traceability.
In Salcete, three establishments found to be in continued or partial non-compliance were fined a total of ₹15,000.
Meanwhile, FDA officials in Quepem collected 25 surveillance samples of sweets and farsan, including two mawa samples, for adulteration testing. Five premises were also inspected for licensing compliance, with one wine store issued a notice for operating without the required licence.
The FDA said surveillance activities will continue across Goa to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and safeguard public health.
