VASCO: Vasco BJP MLA Carlos Almeida on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the new Fire Station building in the presence of BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar and Director of Fire services Ashok Menon.
The project will be taken up at the cost of Rs 14 crores through the PWD and will be completed within 18 months.
Speaking to the media, Carlos Almeida said that the Vasco fire station was the need of the hour.
“We are glad that the foundation stone is being laid today for the project. I also want to request that the Director of Fire Service Ashok Menon upgrade the equipment and have a vehicle with a high post ladder. The project is estimated at Rs 14 crores and will be completed through PWD by 18 months,” said Almeida.
Almeida said that Fire Officials had offered prayers to successfully complete the project, unlike the pending KTC bus stand project.
“I know that this Fire station project will be taken up and completed as well, and I can safely say this failing which people are free to blame me “, said Almeida.
Almeida said that as KTC chairman, he could be held partially responsible
“I do not deny the responsibility of the pending KTC bus stand project, and I can be held partially responsible though technically, we had not got approvals for the project. Whether it is wrong or right, I have to play safe,” said Almeida.
Almeida also requested the Fire Officials to supervise the works so that good quality works can be achieved.
State BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade speaking to media, said that there were no deliberate attempts to sideline Vasco BJP MLA Carlos Alemida.
“I am only speaking for party organisation, but anything beyond that is the purview of CM Dr Pramod Sawant. This fire station will be successfully completed, and I cannot comment on the delay in the KTC bus stand. We can’t blame the MLA for everything, and even when the project has approvals and if the contractor is not doing the job properly or dropping the project halfway, what can Almeida do?” he said.
Tanawade said Alemeid has been regularly following up and has personally spoken to the CM, and a solution is drawn on the project.
As far as fire station is concerned, he said, Almeida knows that all process is completed, so he is fully confident.
“As elections approach, many people plan to contest but the BJP does not care about them and carries out events and programs throughout the year,” said Tanawade.
Director of Fire services Ashok Menon thanked CM Dr Pramod Sawant for taking the project and said PWD would complete the project within 18 months.
“Government of India has sanctioned funds under 15th Finance commissions, and we will be upgrading the equipment at all fire stations including Vasco fire station,” said Menon.
