PANAJI: A meeting with representatives of recognised political parties was held at the Collectorate, North Goa, Panaji, on Monday in connection with the forthcoming First Level Checking (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPATs ahead of the Assembly elections.
The meeting was chaired by North Goa Collector and District Election Officer Ankit Yadav, IAS, who briefed the representatives on the FLC process, prescribed procedures, rules and safeguards laid down by the Election Commission of India.
Deputy Collector (Elections), North Goa, Safal Shetye, made a presentation explaining the FLC process and the related guidelines. The meeting stressed the need for transparency and strict adherence to the prescribed procedures throughout the checking exercise.
The meeting was attended by RGP representative Viresh Borkar, BJP representative Pundalik Raut Dessai and INC representative E. Altinho Gomes.
Director of Higher Education and Nodal Officer for EVMs and VVPATs Bhushan Savaikar and Assistant Nodal Officer Abhijeet Nikam were also present.
The FLC is part of the election preparedness process to ensure that EVMs and VVPATs are checked in accordance with the Election Commission’s prescribed safeguards and procedures.
