VASCO: The first showers in Vasco on Thursday created havoc after trees were reported to have fallen across various locations across the Port Town
Sources in the fire station said that they had tendered to around five calls since the early hours of Thursday.
“We have had calls from various locations, including Baina, where a coconut tree fell on the fishermen’s house. We have been clearing trees since morning with the help of the electricity department and other authorities. Fortunately, there is no loss of life reported in any of the incidents as of now,” said the Fire officer
Meanwhile, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairman Leo Rodrigues said that the MMC was willing to help people and there was no need to panic
“This is the first shower, and there has been a strong gust of wind as well. We have seen that there have been incidents of Tree falls at many locations, and we are working with the Fire brigade to clear the sites as soon as possible. Besides this, we are also willing to extend our support and offer tree cutters wherever required for clearing the sites and dangerous trees as well so that the incidents are reduced,” said Rodrigues.
