VASCO: Vasco women fish vendors are now complaining about no water supply to toilets, water logging and dangerous overgrown tree branches at new market sheds.
The Fish vendors demanded that MMC act swiftly and provide proper facilities at the new market shed.
It is true and a milestone moment in the political career of Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, who has succeeded in shifting the Vasco fish vendors into the temporary shed and taking up the new fish market complex project in Vasco town.
The fish market project and the shifting of fish vendors was a very tedious task that remained unresolved for over a decade. Still, the new MLA of Vasco managed to resolve the issue smart way with the dialogue with the fish vendors and other stakeholders.
Recently, Vasco fish vendors had written a letter to the Chief Officer of MMC, and the CC was made to the Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar requesting proper cleanliness, water supply, toilet facility, and trim DD dangerous tree branches at the new temporary market shed. After that, on Sunday, the Vasco fish vendors voluntarily shifted inside the new fish market shed, but on Monday they saw a water logging in the middle of the open area of the shed.
A women fish vendor said that they need a water supply to clean the market in the evening when they leave. But there is no provision for water supply. Further, the toilet facility is present, but there is no proper water supply inside, making it useless for vendors.
Another vendor informed that on Sunday, a dry tree branch fell on the head of one old lady sitting outside the shed. Such incidences should not happen, and precautions need to be taken.
Custodio Dsouza, president of Old cross canoe owners association, said that he visited the new temporary market shed, and it is spacious. But at the same time, there were some demands of the fish vendors related to the trimming of dangerous tree branches, water supply, clearing of water logging etc., which still has not been fulfilled.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the MMC would put a pump to pump out stagnant water from the market shed, and the water supply-related problem will also be resolved, said councillor Girish Borkar.
