CANACONA: Former CMC chairperson and Chaudi councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar has been appointed Vice-Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Canacona, now formally known as Lata Mangeshkar Kalangan.
The appointment order, dated August 25, 2026, was issued by the Director of Art & Culture and Ex-Officio Joint Secretary to the Government, with immediate effect.
The appointment comes nearly two years after the cultural complex was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on August 27, 2024. The project was completed after a 12-year delay following the laying of its foundation stone by then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in July 2012.
The Canacona Deputy Collector currently serves as the acting Member Secretary and oversees the management and functioning of the cultural complex.
Naik Gaonkar, a resident of Kindlem, has served as CMC chairperson and represented both Kindlem and Chaudi municipal wards. He is also known as a supporter of Canacona MLA and Art & Culture Minister Ramesh Tawadkar.
