CANACONA: Newly elected General Secretary of Shree Mallikarjun and Chetan Manju Desai College, Gaurvi S. Phaldessai, has rejected NSUI’s claim that the students’ council panel was backed by the organisation.
In a video message, Phaldessai and two Class Representatives said the entire panel contested independently and has no affiliation with any political party.
“Our full panel is independent. We have not contested with the support of NSUI or any other political party. We will work with our Chairman and college management,” Phaldessai said.
An elected Class Representative alleged that NSUI used a photograph taken after the election, when its leaders had come to congratulate the students, to portray the panel as NSUI-backed without their consent.
Meanwhile, it has been alleged that BJYM/ABVP members later took Phaldessai and two Class Representatives to meet Canacona BJP MLA and Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, who congratulated them with a flower bouquet.
The development has triggered a political controversy over the newly elected students’ council.
