PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said there is no doubt that the Portuguese were oppressive rulers, but we have to give them credit for starting some good organizations.
CM Sawant referred to the establishment of Goa Medical College (GMC) in the year 1847.
“GMC, founded in 1847, was Asia’s first medical college, and we are proud of it. No doubt Portuguese were oppressive rulers, But we have to give them credit for starting some good organizations in Goa,” said CM Sawant while addressing the gathering on the occasion of Goa Statehood Day.
