PANAJI: Former Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Tony Rodrigues and his supporters today joined the Congress Party.
“If you see the history, it is evident that I am a Congressmen from the start, but then I joined the Babush camp for some reason; I used to which side Babush jumps, but now I am in no position to tolerate that,” said Rodrigues soon after joining the Congress.
He further requested the people to vote for Congress in the coming elections and bring the party to power to end the suffering of the people of Goa.
“Give me one chance in Taleigao, and I will show you what can be done. I will also protect the fields and farmers of Taleigao. I do not want to cheat people and spoil my name; I want to genuinely help the people,” he added.
Sanguem Independent MLA Prasad Gaonkar and two Mayors of Panjim, Uday Madkaikar and Tony Rodrigues, had met Congress senior leaders and expressed their willingness to join the national party.
After meeting the party leader, Rodrigues said that he is willing to join the Congress unconditionally. “I have not asked for a party ticket, but if offered, I will contest from Taleigao constituency,” said Rodrigues.
