New Delhi: The conflict between the United States and Iran has escalated sharply, with Bahrain issuing its fourth air raid alert after Iranian authorities claimed to have launched missile and drone attacks targeting American military facilities in the Gulf.
The latest confrontation began after the United States carried out large scale military strikes on more than 80 locations across Iran. According to the US military, the operation was launched in response to alleged Iranian attacks on three civilian crewed commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has not confirmed involvement in those incidents.
The strikes reportedly targeted air defence systems, command and control centres, coastal radar installations and anti ship missile capabilities. The operation also focused on dozens of boats linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, with Washington saying the objective was to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in one of the world’s busiest maritime routes.
Iranian media reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, Sirik Port, Qeshm Island and Kharg Island. Officials claimed some of the strikes affected civilian areas, with reports of injuries caused by shrapnel near a commercial port in Sirik.
Iran condemned the attacks as an act of aggression and vowed a strong response. Military officials insisted that the country would continue to safeguard navigation through the Strait of Hormuz while rejecting any external interference in the strategically important waterway.
In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it launched a coordinated missile and drone operation against 85 locations associated with US military facilities. Among the reported targets were the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain, and Ali Al-Salem Air Base. Bahrain later activated its fourth air raid alert, with officials stating that incoming Iranian missiles had been intercepted.
The renewed hostilities come just weeks after the United States and Iran announced a peace agreement, highlighting the rapid deterioration in relations and raising fresh concerns over stability and maritime security across the Gulf region.
