PANAJI: On Thursday, at the DYSA ground in Curtorim, Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda cemented their place in the finals of the Simon Barreto Memorial inter-village football tournament, organized by Maina Sports Club. The semifinal match saw Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda dominate Mandopa Sports Club with a convincing 3-0 victory.
The match was a thrilling display of football, keeping the over 3,000 spectators on the edge of their seats. Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda drew first blood in the 14th minute through a powerful header by Regan Costa, maintaining a 1-0 lead until halftime. Despite Mandopa Sports Club’s efforts, with players like Rohan Pereira, Ronaldo Pereira, and Meliston Dias attempting to penetrate the rival defense, Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda’s momentum was unstoppable.
In the second half, Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda sealed their victory with two more goals. Kanchan Kiro scored in the 52nd minute, followed by Bradley Carvalho in the 55th minute, ensuring their team’s advancement to the finals. Meliston Dias of Mandopa Sports Club was recognized as the Man of the Match, an award presented by Neelam Korgaonkar.
Fr. Agnelo YSC Paroda will now face Curtorim Gymkhana in the final match, scheduled for Republic Day, January 26, 2025, at 4:30 PM.
