BAMBOLIM: Dr. Rev. Fr. Bolmax Pereira passed away at around 4:30 am on Tuesday after suffering a massive cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim.
According to Dr Rajesh Patil, Fr. Pereira had been admitted to GMC for the last two days and was reportedly stable on Monday evening. He had even spoken around 10:30 pm before his condition suddenly deteriorated later in the night.
Doctors said he suffered a massive cardiac arrest and was revived before being placed on ventilator support. Despite continued efforts by the medical team, he passed away early Tuesday morning at around 4:30 am.
Dr Patil said Fr. Pereira’s brother arrived at the hospital on Tuesday morning, while senior cardiologist Dr Guruprasad was in discussions with the family. The mortal remains will later be shifted to the GMC morgue.
Meanwhile, St Francis Xavier Church, Chicalim, announced that the last rites of Fr. Bolmax Pereira will be conducted on May 28.
According to a press release issued by the church, the mortal remains will be placed at St. Francis Xavier Church, Chicalim at 7 am for parishioners and well-wishers to pay their final respects, followed by Holy Mass at 10 am.
Thereafter, the mortal remains will be taken to his residence in Quepem. The funeral cortège will leave the residence at 2:30 pm for Holy Cross Church, Quepem, where the Eucharistic Celebration will be held at 3 pm.
Fr. Bolmax Pereira was widely known in Goa for his work as a parish priest, environmental advocate and social activist.
