Srinagar: Security agencies have issued a fresh advisory to forces deployed across Jammu and Kashmir following two recent terror attacks, with vulnerable areas and key routes identified amid concerns over renewed militant activity in the region.
The advisory directs security personnel to avoid isolated or single-person deployments and suspend all non essential personal movement in sensitive locations. Forces have also been instructed to strictly follow standard operating procedures while conducting vehicle checks and patrols, avoiding unsanctioned stops or casual movement in high risk areas.
Security has been significantly strengthened across the identified locations, while search and surveillance operations have been intensified. Agencies have also narrowed their focus to a specific area within a defined radius where the terrorists believed to be responsible for the two attacks are suspected to be operating.
Intelligence inputs indicate that a small group comprising foreign and local terrorists is active in the region. The group is believed to be armed with small weapons and is being closely tracked by security agencies.
The latest attacks took place in south Kashmir. In the first incident, Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi of the IR 3rd Battalion was shot dead by a lone terrorist while on Amarnath Yatra security duty in the Lal Chowk area of Anantnag.
In the second attack, terrorists opened fire on two non local labourers working at a brick kiln in Kulgam district’s Kellam area. Both victims, daily wage workers from Chhattisgarh in their twenties, were critically injured. One died at the scene, while the other later succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Investigators believe the attacks may be linked to a reactivated terror module. Officials have also noted similarities with the targeted attacks witnessed in 2022, when policemen, government employees, teachers and local leaders were repeatedly targeted by militants.
The two incidents are the first major terror attacks reported in the Kashmir Valley since the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, prompting security agencies to step up vigilance across the Union Territory.
