PORVORIM: Though Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated, his thought would never die, said chief guest Prof. Sushila Mendes while addressing the 75 Martyrs’ Day celebration organized by Thomas Stephens Konkkni Kendr Porvorim on 30th January.
Gandhi was regarded the world over next to Jesus Christ for his outstanding three principles Shanti, Ahimsa and Satyagraha (peace, non-violence and satyagraha), he said.
Ronald Coelho S J Provincial of Goa was the guest of honour for the function.
Ms Sampada Kukalkar, the recipient of Sahitya Akademi’s Yuva Sahitya Puraskar, presented a paper on the topic *Gandhi Thought and its Relevance in Modern Era.” Well-known artist and author Smt. Jyoti Kunkalkar recited some selected poems on Gandhiji. Ms Mukta Misar presented an invocation and concluding prayer.
The function was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp and garlanding the Mahatma’s portrait at the hands of Prof. Mendes. Kelwin Monteiro s j welcomed the guest by offering flower bouquets to the invitees. Dr Pandurang Phaldesai, Director of TSK, compared the function and proposed a vote of thanks.
The function was attended by a large number of audiences.
