CANACONA: The villagers of Gaondongrim alleging materials received under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojna is not distributed to eligible people, have threatened to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
According to Gaondongrim Sarpanch Yeshwant alias Dhillon Dessai, central government under the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana 2021-26 (PMKSY) has approved around 10 lakhs of rupees for the Water Conservation Inititiative of ‘Pani Adwa, Pani Jirva scheme, as a first phase expenses.
And through this fund, 11 tables, 11 steel cupboards and 200 plastic chairs have been purchased for the distribution to the respective Anganwadis in the Panchayat area.
Stating further, “These materials should have been handed over to the Panchayat. But since the last four months, all these materials have been gathering dust in the Canacona Zonal Agriculture Office’” Yashwant alias Dhilon Desai, Sarpanch of Gaondongrim, alleged at the recently conveed meeting to discuss the State’s Agriculture Policy in Canacona.
Under this scheme Handicrafts Corporation of Goa aims to provide necessary furniture, sound system and other important equipments to the benefits and use of kindergartens.
Dessai informed, ‘This material was purchased on 15 June 2023. And after disbursement of the first installment, the second installment will be received. But the materials purchased from the sanctioned funds have not yet been distributed’, Dessai alleged, this lacklusture attitude has generated an anger amongst the residents of Gaondongrim. ‘
Dessai further informed that in response to the anger of the people, Panchayat have decided to call for a special gram sabha to discuss the issue, and further informed that going by the anger of the people, there is a possibility to take a decision to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in this gram sabha in protest of government’s apathy towards the people’
