MORMUGAO: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Friday formally inducted its newly constituted Mormugao Block Committee, reaffirming its commitment to addressing local issues, particularly coal pollution and environmental degradation in the constituency.
The induction programme was held in Mormugao in the presence of GFP General Secretary (Organisation) Durgadas Kamat, party leaders and workers from across the constituency.
Addressing the gathering, Kamat said the formation of the Mormugao Block Committee marked an important step in strengthening the party’s grassroots presence and building a strong organisational structure capable of effectively addressing the concerns of the people.
He emphasized that issues affecting Mormugao, especially coal pollution and environmental degradation, would continue to remain at the forefront of the party’s movement. Reiterating the party’s stand on environmental protection, Kamat said GFP would continue to stand with the people of Mormugao in safeguarding their health, environment and future generations.
“The people of Mormugao have paid a heavy price due to unchecked coal handling and environmental neglect. Goa Forward Party will continue to raise these issues and fight for sustainable development that safeguards the interests of Goemkars,” he said.
The meeting also deliberated on several local concerns, including infrastructure shortcomings, employment opportunities and the need for accountable governance. Speakers noted that GFP President Vijai Sardesai has consistently raised these issues both inside and outside the Assembly and assured party workers that GFP would continue to work towards practical solutions for local communities.
During the programme, the newly appointed office-bearers of the Mormugao Block Committee were introduced. Nilesh Navelkar was appointed President, while Tushar Kunjika and Rupa (Vanita) Rohidas Naik were named Vice Presidents. Vipul Morudkar and Zuber Sayed were appointed General Secretaries. Lester Lendes, Nihal Shaikh and Shubham Pednekar will serve as Secretaries, while Rohan Kashalkar was appointed Treasurer.
The newly inducted members assured the party leadership of their commitment to strengthening the organisation, expanding the party’s reach across Mormugao and actively taking up local issues affecting residents.
The programme concluded with a call for unity among party workers and a renewed commitment to the ideals of “Goem, Goemkar, Goemkarponn” while working towards a stronger and more vibrant Mormugao constituency.
