PANAJI: Goa Forward Party (GFP) today has written to the DGP Goa for its urgent intervention to ensure the safety of women across the state.
“I would like to bring to your attention the increasing crime against women that has caused deep anguish and alarm within civil society and particularly among the women of Goa. We call upon you to immediately ensure that all women across the state of Goa have dedicated and fool-proof security that will impart much needed confidence and reassurance to them,” said GFP VP Ashma Bi
She further said that in the wake of terrible news of consecutive rape cases, murders, and assaults on women in Goa, we on behalf of Goa Women Forward Party put across to you our deep concern and apprehension in matters of women’s safety in Goa.
“women are striving for equitable living and equal opportunity, claiming our independence and self- sufficiency within our society, to live under a pall of fear that inhibits us from even stepping outside, let alone go about our work in our cities, towns and villages is detrimental to the progress of a civilised society that boasts of women empowerment and personal freedom,” she said
GFP has also urged the DGP to put into action immediate and effective steps that will comprehensively ensure the safety and security of women across Goa.
“Increased patrolling, quick response, and diligent and quick investigation apart, we recommend proactive intervention from the police force in encouraging more Goan women to join the force. Self-defence training and awareness campaigns along with meaningful interactions regularly with girls and women across campuses and workplaces will go a long way in not only instilling self-confidence and self-assurance in the individual but also build the trust and belief in the state police,” Ashma said
