PANAJI: India’s solar revolution is making significant strides, with Goa at the forefront of the green energy push. Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant addressed the ‘Accelerating Solarization in Goa’ workshop, organized by the Swaniti Initiative, which is aimed at securing a sustainable energy future for both Goa and India. The workshop saw the participation of Union Minister of State for Power Shri Shripad Naik, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Cabinet colleagues, MLAs, and other distinguished guests. During his speech, Dr. Sawant extended his gratitude to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, highlighting that India has already surpassed 107 GW of solar power, moving steadfastly toward the 2030 goal of 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity. Dr. Sawant also spoke about the significant impact of government schemes like the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and the Mukhyamantri Mofat Vij Yevjan, which are lighting up homes across the country with up to 100% subsidies for rooftop solar installations.
The Chief Minister outlined Goa’s bold actions to promote solar energy, including the target of achieving 50% rooftop solar installations in households across the state, the launch of 63 Model Solar Villages, and the distribution of free solar pumps to farmers under the PM-KUSUM scheme. “With these initiatives, Goa is paving the way for a greener, self-reliant future,” Dr. Sawant remarked, emphasizing that the state’s commitment to solar energy is an important step in securing a sustainable future for all. As Goa marches ahead, the focus remains on empowering local communities and supporting sustainable practices, one solar panel at a time.
