PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the state government aims to achieve 100 per cent in Goa by December 19.
“Government aims to achieve 100% literacy in Goa by Dec 19, 2024; Govt to rope in Swayampurna Mitras, teachers, panchayat members to identify people who are not able to read and write & train them,’ said Sawant.
He further said that 3000 people had been identified and training was provided to them. He also said that Swayampurna Mitras and Panchayats will identify such people and provide Adult Education.
“We are trying to achieve 100 per cent vaccination, (which is possible) because of the high literacy rate,” Sawant told reporters. According to the 2011 census, Goa’s literacy stands at 88.70 per cent.
He also said that his government has initiated various steps to strengthen the education sector.
“No one should fall behind in education for want of money, and, therefore, various schemes have been implemented to extend help to the students who aspire to pursue their studies in the country or abroad.”
The goal established by the state is to locate and enlighten people who lack literacy. These people, who range in age from 19 to 60, are both native-born and foreign-born.
The majority of the people identified under the program are daily wage workers, and since it’s cashew season, they must go to plantations for work especially the women which is why they were unable to show up for the exam.
In order for the candidates to be able to respond, we now intend to hold another exam” the official stated.
