PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today informed that cabinet has accorded approval to Digismart Networks Pvt Limited for installation of Smart Power meters.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was addressing the press conference after chairing the cabinet meeting along with council of ministers.
“Cabinet has accorded approval to Digismart Networks Pvt Limited for installation of Smart Power meters,” informed Sawant
He further said that in the first phase only commercial establishments to be taken up and total 7.5 lakh meters to be replaced.
The Electricity Department claims that the smart meter records and maintains all electrical characteristics, including energy usage, voltage and current levels, etc., and operates in real-time.
The department will use the data for fault investigation, demand management, load scheduling, billing, and power quality monitoring.
Goa is one of the few states with zero progress on installing smart meters, distribution transformer meters (DTM), and feeder meters, according to statistics made public by the Union Ministry. About 7,41,160 customers have received smart meters from the Ministry, along with 8,369 DTM and 827 feeder meters.
Following an initial delay, the department has now started the smart meter installation procedure, for which the Union Ministry of Power has approved a budget of Rs 467 crore.
It is now anticipated that the project will be carried out in stages over a period of more than two and a half years, starting in 2025–2026.
