AMONA: Dr Pramod Sawant, CM, Goa flagged off Vedanta Sesa Goa’ Mobile Health Unit at Amona Panchayat. The MHU will help expand the reach of the primary medical services provided by Vedanta’s Value-Added Business (VAB).
The flagging off ceremony was organised at Amona Panchayat and community leaders including Mr Krishna Gawas, Sarpanch Amona, along with Mr. Saptesh Sardesai, CEO of Value-Added Business (VAB) & other company executives.
CM, Dr. Pramod Sawant said “Vedanta Sesa Goa has started the Mobile Health Unit Project for benefiting the whole population of the Amona and Navelim village. They are now shifting from health care centres to mobile health units which is a great initiative by Vedanta, first I would like to congratulate them for starting this MHU so that more and more people can benefit by the health services provided by Vedanta.”
VAB, as part of Project Aarogya, currently operates Community Medical Centres at Amona & Navelim. With the extension of services through the medium of the MHU, community members of Betki, Khandola, and surrounding areas will also be provided access to basic medical services. Presently the CMCs are able to attend to approximately 6000 community members annually. The MHU is designed to bring essential healthcare services to the doorstep of communities & will now be able to provide access to over additional 3000 individuals. MHU will also help provide medical assistance by organising specialised health camps related to cancer screening, dental/ eye/ dermatology/ cardiovascular issues. It will comprise of a qualified local doctor and nurses who will extend the medical services.
Navin Jaju, CEO, Vedanta Sesa Goa, speaking on the occasion said “As part of Project Aarogya, we, at Vedanta have endeavoured to provide access to basic medical care to communities we operate in. We have a well-established MHU operating in Bicholim and now we have augmented the existing facilities in Amona as well. We continue to support the community health initiatives through specialised medical health camps, medical equipment distribution and through various outdoor and community level activities.”
Saptesh Sardesai, CEO VAB, stated that “At VAB, we are deeply committed to improving the health and well-being of the communities we serve. Prior to this, VAB also organized various specialized health check-up camps for women in Amona and Navelim. The camp catered to the healthcare needs of over [number] women from the local communities and neighboring villages. This initiative reiterates VAB’s commitment to promoting the well-being of women and ensuring accessible healthcare services for all.
