PORVORIM: Stating that the Communidade bodies will be taken into confidence while regularising houses on their land, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today clarified that the move is not to regularise slums but to grant protection to houses constructed by Niz Goemkar.
Sawant was speaking to reporters during the State Cabinet meeting.
“70 to 80 per cent of houses on Communidade land are of Goans and we want to give them protection. This has nothing to do with slum regularisation,” said Sawant.
He further said that any regulations would be drafted only after taking Communidade bodies into confidence.
“Almost 500 houses in Canacona and 150 have been Saligao issued demolition notices as they built on Comunidade land,” he added
Sawant said that this law is not to regularize slums but to protect Goan houses.
“Sometimes the Comunidade issues a letter of permission for construction and the same is denied by the next committee. If people have the letters issued by the comunidades they will be accepted,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister also said that “those who had purchased land and built houses and obtained water and electricity connections before 2014 were asked to apply for regularisation of their houses.”
Due to some issues, these people have not completed the procedures and a few are now facing demolition. We extended the opportunity for regularisation of the houses thrice, except on comunidade land, and have extended the time.”
