PANAJI: The Goa Director General of Police Jaspal Singh has indirectly hit out at Goan and National media over the IPS Officer A Koan molestation issue saying “Don’t judge IPS Officers due to isolated instances.”
A day after the action against IPS officer A Koan, who molested a woman in a nightclub, the media went gung ho criticising the IPS officer and demanding strict action.
“Don’t judge officers of IPS based on isolated instances of misdemeanours. They come out of long, arduous and meticulous training to serve the nation,” the DGP said on his Twitter handle.
He further went on to add, “They have sacrificed lives at the altar of the nation and are fighting terrorism, insurgency and naxalism and daily crime.”
In another instance, DGP criticised a national newspaper over its opinion on the Banastari accident involving Paresh Sawardekar.
“A highly biased view by an otherwise impartial paper. There is no ‘Us and Them’ between Police and citizens. The paper ignores the fact that the Police booked the case under 304 which attracts severe punishment. Let me tell that Police investigation is subject to judicial scrutiny,” he said on social media.
He added, “Ordinarily accident cases are registered under 304 A but Goa Police registered it under 304- Culpable Homicide. Without understanding nuances of law and investigation we should not indulge in trial by media.”
