PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Monday reaffirmed the Goa government’s commitment to supporting the State’s Warkari community by announcing enhanced financial assistance, improved pilgrim facilities and new infrastructure projects for devotees travelling to holy destinations.
Addressing Warkaris ahead of the annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur, Sawant described the Wari as a symbol of faith, unity and Goa’s enduring cultural traditions. He said registered Warkari groups will receive financial assistance ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh, depending on the size of the group, to help meet return travel expenses. The funds will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts within two days, ensuring timely support before the pilgrimage.
To encourage environmentally responsible travel, the government also distributed cloth bags, caps and first-aid kits to Warkaris, promoting a plastic-free and eco-friendly pilgrimage.
Highlighting long-term initiatives, the Chief Minister said the government is working to complete the proposed Goa Vitthal Rukmini Bhavan in Pandharpur before next year’s Wari. The facility is expected to provide affordable accommodation for Goan pilgrims visiting the holy town.
Sawant further announced that the government has acquired land in Ayodhya for the construction of Goa Ram Nivas, which will offer accommodation and other facilities for Goan devotees travelling to the temple town.
He added that if the number of Warkaris continues to increase in the coming years, the government is prepared to enhance the financial allocation for the pilgrimage assistance scheme. The Chief Minister also referred to the Dev Darshini initiative for senior citizens, saying the government remains committed to making religious travel more accessible while preserving Goa’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
