FATORDA: Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai today said that the state government is not giving importance to Agriculture department.
Vijai was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the harvesting season at Fatorda paddy fields.
“State government is not giving importance to Agriculture department. The agriculture policy has yet again come for suggestions from people is because of me. They wanted to just pass it,” said Vijai
He further said that the agricultural policy is just a packaging of various schemes brought together and said its a policy.
“The vision should be far sighted for next 25 years. Policy is not clerical but bureaucratic. We need balance between agriculture and urbanisation,” he added
Vijai said that he has given various suggestions to the committee so that the proposed agriculture policy becomes a real vision document for the agriculture sector of Goa.
The Fatorda MLA suggested that the government resolve the ownership issue of agricultural land and look at bringing fallow land under cultivation by bringing land-related reforms, which, he said, will pave the way for contract farming too.
“We have farmers, who have been cultivating land for generations together. However, they are not shown on documents as owners or tenants. This issue has to be resolved on priority. I have also suggested having a task force of farmers as members from all the 12 talukas,” he said.
