PORVORIM: The Goa government has issued a circular urging all government officials and employees to adopt fuel-saving measures in response to growing concerns over global fuel supply pressures and the need for responsible energy consumption.
The directive, issued by the General Administration Department with the approval of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, follows an appeal by the Prime Minister stressing the importance of fuel conservation.
Under the advisory, government staff have been encouraged to use public transport for daily travel wherever practical, participate in carpooling with colleagues living nearby, and minimise unnecessary travel by using virtual meeting platforms when feasible.
The circular also calls for careful and economical use of government vehicles and transport resources across departments.
Heads of Departments have been instructed to widely circulate the advisory and promote compliance in the larger public interest.
The circular was issued by Shweta R. Harmalkar, Under Secretary (GA-II), on May 18.
