PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that according to the agreement with Maharashtra regarding the Tillari water project, Goa receives 80% of the water while Maharashtra receives 20%. He emphasized that Maharashtra cannot divert water to Karnataka without Goa’s consent.
In addition to paying for project upkeep as needed, he claimed that Goa has the greatest authority over Tillari water.
“Maharashtra cannot share or divert Tillari water with Karnataka at any cost,” Sawant declared.
According to media sources, Karnataka has proposed to Maharashtra that Tillari water be diverted through the Markdey River to Ghatprabhat. Karnataka is currently engaged in a water war with Goa and Maharashtra over Mhadei.
Speaking further, the Chief Minister stated that in an effort to meet the rising demand, the State has recently asked Maharashtra to raise the dam’s height, which will help to improve its ability to store water.
Goa’s two coastal talukas Bardez and Pernem may hit with water crisis if Maharashtra agrees to Karnataka’s proposal of diversion of water from Tillari, which is currently shared with Goa.
Former Mahadayi PRAWAH Chairperson P M Scott along with other members visited Goa on 4th July to inspect the Mhadei basin. On 4th July the Authority visited Amthane Dam, Bicholim River, Anjunem Dam, Valvanti Drinking Water Scheme, Surla, and Mhadei at Ustem.
It was observed that flow of Kalasa was diverted to the Malaprabha river through RCC box conduits already constructed by the state of Karnataka is not mentioned in the report.
Diversion of Kalsa Nala water of Mhadei basin was verified at the entry point of conduits and at the end of the conduits at the connecting Malaprabha river also not mentioned.
