PONDA: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said, “Most tourists coming to Goa believe that Goa means only Sun, Sand and Sea, but we need to change this mindset and show that Goa is not only sun, sea and sand but there is a lot of things we can explore for tourist. We need to show our culture to tourists to boost spiritual eco and adventurous tourism.”
He further said, “We need to show them our culture and environment. We are planning to boost spiritual, adventure and eco-tourism that will generate employment as well as economy.”
Khaunte, while speaking to reporters at the sideline of the Children’s Day programme at Dhavlim Matruchaya, said that Goa is the most prefered tourism destination of world tourists. “But Goa should not be only Sun, Sand and Sea for them,” he said.
He said the stay of tourism needs to increase. After beach tourism, the tourist visits old Goa, a couple of temples at Mangueshim and Kavlem and leaves Goa. This should not happen.
“We have the world-famous Dudhsagar beside this, there is heritage site Tambdi Surla temple which is an attraction for tourists, and soon We are planning a master plan to develop new circuits that will also show culture after holding a meeting with local MLA Ganesh Gaonkar on how to promote new tourism circuits by encouraging their stay at different locations other than Sun, sea and sand,” he said.
When asked whether the government is planning to increase the number of Jeeps at world famous tourist Dudhsagar waterfall, for which tourist arrives at Collem but are disappointed and returns due to the restriction of only per day240 Jeeps ferrying at Dudhsagar waterfall, he said We need to promote sustainable and responsible tourism to protect the environment. However, We will ask the forest department to relook at whether more jeeps are permissible at the waterfall.
