PANAJI: The Goa Kula-Mundkar Sangharsh Samiti will observe Tiller Day on October 8 to highlight the rights of Kula-Mundkars, land-related issues, applicable laws and the current status of pending land claims in Goa.
The Samiti said that even after five decades, many Kula-Mundkars are yet to secure ownership rights over the lands they have cultivated, with the properties continuing to remain recorded in the names of Bhatkars.
“After 50 years, our lands still do not belong to us. They continue to belong to the Bhatkars. We demand that these lands be legally recognised as belonging to the Kula-Mundkars,” the Samiti said.
The organisation further warned that if the government fails to conduct a proper survey of Kula-Mundkar lands, it will launch a campaign against the government during the upcoming Assembly elections.
As part of its awareness drive, the Samiti will also organise the ‘Bahujan Jagruti Sawad’ programme across Goa to educate people about Kula-Mundkar land issues.
The awareness programme will be held in two phases. The North Goa phase will be conducted from November 2 to 25, followed by the South Goa phase from December 2 to 25.
The Samiti said the campaign aims to create greater awareness among Kula-Mundkars about their legal rights and highlight the unresolved land ownership issues that continue to affect them.
