PANAJI: The Goa Government has revised the compensation rates payable to people who suffer death, permanent disability or injuries caused by wild animals.
The Forest Department issued a notification dated September 22, 2026, partially modifying the earlier notification issued on April 24, 2020, under the “Scheme for grant of compensation on account of loss of human life, permanent disability or injury caused by Wild Animals.”
Under the revised rates, the ex-gratia compensation for death caused by a wild animal attack has been increased to Rs 15 lakh.
For permanent disability, including loss of a limb or eye, the compensation has been fixed at Rs 7.5 lakh.
The revised scheme also provides compensation for injuries other than permanent disability. A minor injury will attract compensation of Rs 50,000, while grievous injury or partial disability will attract Rs 2 lakh.
The compensation for grievous injury or partial disability will be subject to certification by a government doctor with reference to the category of injury.
The notification states that the compensation rates for loss of cattle or property due to wild animal attacks, along with other terms and conditions under Table-II, will remain unchanged from the 2020 notification.
The revised order has been issued with the concurrence of the Finance (Expenditure) Department through its U.O. dated August 6, 2026.
The notification was issued by the Forest Department and signed by Under Secretary (Forest) Sitaram Gurudas Sawal. It has been forwarded for publication in the next issue of the Official Gazette.
