Panaji: A 20-year-old man was rescued by lifesavers off Palolem beach following a kayaking mishap during the weekend, even as five children who were reported missing along the coastline, were also traced and reunited with their parents by Drishti Marine personnel.
Off Palolem beach, a young local cut his hand while trying to climb out of his kayak. The deep cut, which led to excessive bleeding, was attended to by lifesavers posted on the beach, before the person was rushed to a nearby health centre. In another incident off Candolim beach, a 57-year-old male Punjab resident injured his leg while deboarding a boat. He was administered first-aid before being transferred to the nearest public health centre in Candolim.
At Calangute beach, parents of two girls from Uttar Pradesh, one, a six-year-old and the other a four-year-old, approached the lifesaver tower to report their missing daughters. After a series of announcements, the two missing children were found some distance away.
Calangute Beach also reported two different incidents in which youngsters were reported missing and were later reunited with their parents, with the help of lifesavers. One was a five-year-old from Telangana, while the other was a seven-year-old from Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
At Baga beach, a seven-year-old was handed over to the nearest lifesaving tower after he was found wandering unattended on the beach. He was later handed over to his parents.
2023 witnessed 165 missing children reunited with their parents, while 68 individuals were administered first-aid by Drishti Marine lifesavers during the same period.
