VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Thursday morning said that the long pending the project of the new Vasco fish market would be ready by the end of august and and would be opened for use immediately there after.
Salkar was speaking to reporters after a joint inspection with the officials of GSUDA in the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC ) Chairperson Girish Borkar, City ward Councillor Shami Salkar and others.
” This is a project that was held up for over 25 years and is coming true finally . The project was proposed by Former MLA Rajendra Arlekar and was held up since then but we are almost on the completion stage and the target to complete this project is end of August. We have made this project as per the needs of the Vasco fish market vendors and provided all the facilities ,including smooth flow of drainage. The vendors will have ample space to store and sell their products and we appeal the vendors to maintain the market .” Said Salkar
” We will have space with stands alloted seperately for all the vendors. We have pipeline with outlets at each counter so that the fish water or drainage flows form then and there and the market remains neat and clean. The first floor will have ample space to adjust fruit vendors and vegetables vendors and finally we have a huge hall with their religious structure so that they can have their litany and other religious functions in the huge open space without any chaos while offering prayers. ” Said Salkar
” The building has got a very aesthetic look and we will also have a nice board with the project name so that we have a different infrastructure in the heart of the city for the vendors and the fishing community. We thank all the agencies and authorities who are involved in the project and the biggest contribution to this market is the Fish vendors who kept their faith in me and vacated the space for the new market project. Many people and politicians tried to instigate the vendors not to allow the market and vacate the space and some even said that the project will never happen at all. However, the fishing community and the vendors kept faith in me and we ensured that the vendors get the new fish market complex with all the facilities and as per their needs within 18 months. We have to thank CM Dr Pramod Sawant and Urban Development Minister Vishwajeet Rane for having supported the project . ” Said Salkar
