BAMBOLIM: Health Minister Vishwjait Rane that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted approval to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) for an increase in MBBS seats to 200 for the academic year 2024-2025.
GMC has also received approval to increase postgraduate MD/MS seats across several specialities, including Radiodiagnosis, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pharmacology, and Pediatrics.
“We have undertaken this initiative to address the growing demand for skilled healthcare providers and to ensure that our institution continues to meet evolving medical challenges. This expansion allows us to train more aspiring medical professionals, reinforcing our commitment to providing exceptional medical education,” said Rane
He further said that quality education and hands-on training, equip future medical professionals with the knowledge and expertise to provide top-notch medical care.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the National Medical Commission, the Dean of GMC, Prof. Dr. Shivanand M. Bandekar, the Health Department, and the Government of Goa for their pivotal support towards building a robust healthcare system and advancing medical education in our state,” he added.
GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar said that these increases in seat capacity reflect our ongoing commitment to fostering medical excellence and addressing the growing healthcare needs in the region and beyond.
“Goa Medical College remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of medical professionals while providing cutting-edge medical education,” he added.
Bandekar said that he was deeply grateful to the National Medical Commission for their continued support and trust in our institution.
