MAPUSA: Mapusa Police arrested an Odisha native for stealing cash from Cash Deposit Machine by diverting a customer’s attention.
As per SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi, a complaint was received from State Bank of India, Mapusa Branch, that some unknown person stole away cash at the Cash Deposit Machine from ATM E- Lobby, State bank of India, Mapusa, Bardez Goa.
On receipt of the complaint, an offence u/s 380 IPC was registered.
During the investigation and examination of CCTV footage of the ATM, it was seen that when customers came to ATM to deposit cash and to use the service of cash deposit machine, one unknown person started talking to the customers and further diverted their attention and managed to cancel the transaction and steals the cash which was supposed to be deposited in the ATM machine.
On observing the CCTV footage, Mapusa Police Station has arrested one Rajesh Damodar Behera n/o Odisha R/o Mumbai, Maharashtra, whose face matched the images captured in the CCTV footage.
The accused person has also confessed his involvement in the said crime, and cash of Rs. 2000/- was recovered from his possession.
The bank is examining the stolen amount by checking their bank records.
Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of PI Somnath Majik and SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi, and SP north Nidhin Valsan IPS.
