Madgao: In a stellar display of martial arts prowess, the Goa Pencak Silat team clinched an impressive third place at the 6th West Zone Pencak Silat Championship 2025, held in Mandsour, Madhya Pradesh. This achievement is a testament to the team’s dedication and rigorous training under the guidance of Chief Instructor Anthony Cedley Braganza. The championship, which took place from January 10-12, 2025, saw the Goa team garner a total of 17 medals, highlighting the talents of several young athletes from the state.
The Goa Pencak Silat team’s medal tally was formidable, with 8 gold medals, 8 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal. Athletes such as Aarav Sawant, Shreedha Bhaje, Anirudra Gawas, Adyasha Priyadarshinie Samal, Samarth Shirodkar, Ajay Deepak Karbotkar, and Asha Babu Naik excelled in the fight category, each securing gold medals. Beverly Da Silva, Chrissie Fernandes, Jarred Aiden Pinto, Milagrina Colaco, and Josh Rhys Vaz also made their mark by winning silver medals in the fight category.
Aley Sam Da Silva demonstrated versatility by winning a silver medal in the artistic form category and a bronze medal in the fight category. The success of these athletes underscores the effective training and mentorship provided by Chief Instructor Anthony Cedley Braganza, who has been instrumental in shaping the team’s skills and strategy.
The 6th West Zone Pencak Silat Championship was a significant event, with six states participating, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Goa, Daman, Dadar, and Gujarat. Madhya Pradesh emerged as the overall champion, followed by Maharashtra in second place and Goa securing the third place trophy. This achievement not only reflects the team’s hard work but also solidifies Goa’s presence in the world of Pencak Silat.
