PANAJI: Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane today said that Goa has set a remarkable example in environmental stewardship by planting 3.16 lakh trees and covering 450 hectares of land across the state, far exceeding the targets set by the MoEFCC.

He further said that this achievement was made possible through the collaborative efforts of public representatives, schools, NGOs and local communities.
“I can proudly say that Goa will continue to lead the way in green initiatives and demonstrate the power of collective action for a sustainable future,” he added.
Rane said that as per the recent Indian State of Forest Report (ISFR, 2021), total Forest Cover of the State of Goa is 2244.21 Sq. Kms.
“There is an increase in the Forest Cover of Goa in the last five 5 years, as per the India State of Forest Report (ISFR) of the year 2017, 2019 and 2021. Government-owned Forest: 1225.12 Sq. Kms. Notified privately owned Forest 50.66 Sq. Kms..,” he informed.
Rane added that as per the India State of Forest Report (ISFR) 2021 published by the Forest Survey of India (FSI), the area under Mangroves in the State of Goa is 27 sq. Km. and the Mangrove cover has increased by 1 sq, km. over the 2019 assessment done by the Forest Survey of India (FSI).
“Assessment of Forest Cover is carried out on a biannual basis by Forest Survey of India (FSI) Dehradun. Government is making sincere efforts to protect, preserve and conserve forest cover in Goa,’ the minister added.
