PANAJI: Goa Police and the National Cadet Corps (NCC) have joined hands to strengthen the fight against drug abuse through a series of awareness initiatives, including a mega motorcycle rally on October 19 and a youth outreach programme at Calangute beach.
The initiative aims to promote the national Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Drug-Free India Campaign) and commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.
As part of the preparations, Goa Director General of Police Alok Kumar held a high-level coordination meeting with Capt Sumeet Sinha, Commanding Officer of the 1 Goa Naval NCC Unit, in the presence of Sunita Sawant, Superintendent of Police, Anti-Narcotics Cell, Goa Police.
The meeting focused on strengthening inter-state and inter-departmental coordination by combining the institutional reach of the NCC with the community policing initiatives of Goa Police to combat drug abuse.
A major highlight of the campaign will be a nationwide motorcycle rally themed “Fight Against Drugs” scheduled for October 19, 2026. Police forces from Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka will join Goa Police in the initiative to spread awareness about substance abuse and promote a united approach to tackling the drug menace across state borders.
The campaign will also feature a large-scale youth mobilisation programme at Calangute beach, with approximately 250 NCC cadets expected to participate. The cadets will lead community outreach activities, educational interactions and public awareness campaigns to sensitise people about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
The joint initiative seeks to empower young people to become ambassadors of a drug-free society by educating them about the psychological and physical consequences of substance abuse and encouraging healthy and responsible lifestyles. It also aims to promote peer support networks to help young people resist the influence of drugs.
DGP Alok Kumar emphasised the importance of institutional coordination in the fight against drugs, highlighting the role of NCC discipline alongside police enforcement and community engagement in safeguarding the future of the youth.
The collaborative framework will also include educational seminars across institutions and sustained grassroots engagement to strengthen awareness and encourage public participation in the campaign.
Through the initiative, Goa Police and the NCC aim to mobilise young citizens and communities towards the shared goal of building a healthier, safer and drug-free India.
