PANAJI: Vasco police have nabbed four persons in Uttar Pradesh in connection with the burglary at a bungalow in Dabolim on January 15.
The accused have been identified as Jitendra Bhediye (30), Vijay Mohan Lal (23), Umesh Mohan Lal (20) and Rohit Dev Singh (19), all residents of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh.
Vasco PI Kapil Nayak said police had registered an offence on January 15 under Sections 454, 457, 380 IPC following a complaint by Shashikant Hanabarahatti of Shantinagar that an unknown accused had broken into the bungalow at Dabolim belonging to his employer and had stolen gold ornaments and cash sometime between January 11 and 15.
“The bungalow owner Rajeev Gupta later arrived at Vasco police station on January 16 and informed the police that the unknown accused had stolen ornaments, cash and coins, all worth Rs 12 lakh,” said PI Nayak.
The investigation officer sent a wireless message to police stations in Goa and also flashed a wireless message to ICPW Bambolim with a request to circulate the wireless message to all police stations in India mentioning the offence.
“On January 17, we received a phone call from PI of Bahajoy Police Station informing that they had apprehended 4 accused persons along with the gold and silver ornaments and coins at the instance of the accused, and they also informed that during interrogation, the accused admitted having stolen the property from a bungalow at Dabolim,” said PI Nayak.
A Vasco police team then went to the Bahajoy Police Station and also got in touch with the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Uttar Pradesh.
On Wednesday, the four accused were escorted by a Bahajoy police team from Uttar Pradesh to Vasco and as per the order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Chandousi Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, they were produced before the Vasco JMFC for further investigation.
The accused were then placed under arrest at the Vasco Police Station. The Vasco police are investigating the case under the supervision of Vasco SDPO Salim Shaikh and SP South Abhishak Dhania.
