PANAJI: The new Director-General of Police (DGP) Indradev Shukla (IPS), AGMUT 1995, took charge today and said he is well aware of the present situation and the problems in the State.
Speaking to the media after taking charge, Shukla said that Tourists safety will be the highest priority, followed by the watch on the narcotic activities from the State.
DGP further added that smooth traffic movement on the roads will be ensured, and the parking issues in some towns will also be solved by promoting green corridors.
Commenting on the technology aspect in the force, DGP Shukla opined that no policemen could be advanced without technological support.
“Our priority will be to equip the police force with the technology as the Cybercrimes also need technical support,” he stated.
Maintaining Law and order is also a priority. As the elections are approaching, the DIG and IG has briefed the forces. Presently the recruitment of the police is ongoing smoothly,” Shukla said.
He further said that the Goa police will get at least 1000 new policemen after recruitment. “I will support all actions which are promoting good governance”, that may be smartness in policing, technology and the behaviour of the policemen, Shukla stated.
Interestingly, DGP Shukla commented, ” I do not want my policemen to misbehave with any citizen, absolutely not. I want my policemen to behave, talk with anybody, any tourist, and be helpful so that we can carry a good name and fame worldwide. I want to make Goa a tourist-friendly destination without any illegal activities with all my priorities, and I will see that my force will promote these good ideas”.
Further, when questioned on some issues, DGP said that he is well aware of the State and its situation and wants police to ,be a serving delivery force.
“My doors will be open to all citizens and they can even use social media platforms to convey complains, messages, suggestions which will be welcomed,” he said.
He said that he wants to make Goa drug free and for that awareness creation and strict action under NDPS and other acts by booking the person involved will be done. Women safety will be taken seriously,” said DGP Shukla.
