PANAJI: The Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa convened a State Coordination Meeting under the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Porvorim, on Thursday, bringing together key stakeholders to accelerate the rollout of the initiative across Goa.
Delivering an overview of the scheme, Prof. Niyan Marchon, Program Director at DHE and Goa State Nodal Officer for PMIS, outlined its objectives and implementation framework. The presentation highlighted the scheme’s role in enhancing youth employability, reviewed progress under Pilot phases 1 and 2 since 2024, and presented a strategic roadmap for Pilot 3 in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Trupti Sharma, Registrar of Companies, Goa, from the Indian Corporate Law Services, emphasized the need to strengthen industry-academia linkages. She underscored the importance of structured internship programmes in equipping students with relevant, job-ready skills.
The meeting also featured online addresses by Ms. Rutuja Bankar, Deputy Director and Nodal Officer for PMIS (Maharashtra and Goa), and Shri Santosh Kumar, Regional Director (Western Region), Ministry of Corporate Affairs, India, who shared insights on the broader vision and implementation of the scheme.
Participants included representatives from the Directorate of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Directorate of Technical Education, Directorate of Education, Department of Labour & Employment, Goa Industrial Development Corporation, Registrar of Companies Goa, and the Department of Industries and Commerce. Internship Nodal Officers from 60 higher education institutions, engineering colleges, polytechnics, and ITIs were also present.
An interactive session allowed stakeholders to discuss challenges, seek clarifications, and contribute suggestions to improve execution on the ground.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Ainsley Bernard, Assistant Professor at DHE, and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to coordinated efforts for the successful implementation of PMIS in Goa.
