PANAJI: The Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services will conduct a state-wide survey to collect detailed data on stray dogs, pet dogs and stray cattle found along highways, roads and other areas across Goa.
The survey will be carried out by the urban and rural local bodies from October 1 to October 15, 2026, following directions issued by the Bombay High Court at Goa in Suo Motu Writ Petition No. 2 of 2026, in compliance with directions of the Supreme Court in Suo Motu Writ Petition No. 5 of 2025.
As part of the exercise, ward-wise information on stray dogs and stray cattle will be collected across the State. The Directorate has urged dog feeders and volunteers in every ward to approach their respective panch members, councillors or corporators and submit information about stray dogs and cattle in their localities by September 25.
A door-to-door exercise will also be conducted by the concerned ward members, with assistance from dog feeders and volunteers, to identify domesticated and pet dogs in each ward.
The exercise will include recording the number, gender and sterilisation status of pet dogs, allowing authorities to compile comprehensive local-level data.
The Directorate has appealed to residents, feeders and volunteers to extend their cooperation and provide the required information to ensure the survey is completed effectively.
The data collected through the exercise is expected to assist authorities in strengthening the management of stray animals and implementing measures in accordance with the directions of the courts.
