PANAJI: Goa is set to become the first state to establish a Task Force Committee dedicated to the safety of medical professionals, following the recent tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a medical professional in Kolkata.
In line with the Supreme Court’s guidelines, we are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our doctors at Goa Medical College (GMC).
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the Task Force will be chaired by the Dean of GMC, Dr. S. M. Bandekar, and will include key members such as the Heads of Departments from Forensic Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pathology, Respiratory Medicine, Emergency and Trauma, Psychiatry, as well as the Director of Academics, the Hospital Matron, representatives from the Student Council, the Advisor to the Health Minister, and other relevant stakeholders.
“In addition to forming this Task Force, we will expedite the implementation of the Goa Association of Resident Doctors’ (GARD) demands. These include enhancing surveillance, improving lighting in areas lacking street lamps, and increasing active security presence to ensure a safe environment for all medical professionals,” Rane said.
The Task Force Committee will operate under a strict timeline, ensuring that all measures and demands are addressed promptly and effectively. We are fully committed to safeguarding our medical community and maintaining the highest standards of safety at GMC, said Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
