PANAJI: In response to a directive from the Union Ministry of Education, the Goa government has announced plans to fill nearly 859 vacant teaching positions on a contractual basis across various educational levels.
Earlier this month, the Ministry’s Project Approval Board (PAB) for Samagra Shiksha instructed the state to fill 848 teaching vacancies—spanning primary, secondary, and senior secondary levels—by December 31, 2025.
Following this, Goa Samagra Shiksha has scheduled walk-in interviews to recruit 700 primary teachers, 129 National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) instructors, and 30 instructors in Fine Art, Western Music, and Theatre Art. The interviews will take place at the Directorate of Education.
The walk-in interviews for primary teacher posts will be held from May 26 to 30. Of the 700 positions, 371 are unreserved, 189 reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC), 84 for Scheduled Tribes (ST), and 14 for Scheduled Castes (SC). Additionally, 35 vacancies are reserved for persons with disabilities (PwD) and seven for ex-servicemen.
On May 29, the walk-in interviews will fill 30 instructor posts: 12 for Fine Art and nine each for Western Music and Theatre Art. Apart from two Fine Art instructor posts in Mormugao, the remaining positions are located in Salcete taluka.
The Education Department will conduct interviews for NSQF instructors in fields such as automobile, hospitality, healthcare, construction, plumbing, banking, beauty, and logistics on May 27 and 28.
During the Ministry meeting earlier this month, PAB highlighted that, at the state-sanctioned level, 306 elementary, 311 secondary, and 231 senior secondary teaching posts remain vacant.
The panel also urged the state to prioritize regularizing contractual posts at the State Council for Education, Research and Training (SCERT) and District Institute of Education Training (DIET) by June 2025. Currently, 33 out of 37 such posts are filled on a contractual basis.
Additionally, the state was encouraged to ensure continuous professional development opportunities for teachers, enabling them to complete at least 50 hours annually as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
